It’s OT Month! What creative and fun ideas are you introducing this year to promote and market our profession? The AOTA is encouraging all occupational therapy practitioners to contact the media, promote the profession, and educate the public about OT.

If you’re short on ideas, the AOTA suggests 10 things you can do to celebrate, such as contacting a reporter with a great patient success story (keeping in mind HIPAA rules), presenting a lecture on the unique value of occupational therapy to your local community service organizations, advertising your clinic or service in your local newspaper, throwing an OT Month party, and most importantly, informing your hospital or facility-wide colleagues about what we do every day. If you need more help, the AOTA has set up several Web sites and links for promoting OT.

The 2009 AOTA Conference & Expo is April 23 to 26 in Houston. The theme of this year’s conference is “Energy,” and the AOTA invites you to come “recharge” your career. The conference will focus on the Centennial Vision that “occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society’s occupational needs.”

This is an energetic goal that we will achieve with hard work, group effort, and positive attitudes.

Happy OT Month.
